Просмотров 30917 часов назад
Special Education Teachers don't just stay in one room all day, our roles often require us to be on the goal, to accompany a student to the least-restrictive environment, or sometimes even in unexpected places. Using our voices for commands or instructions isn't always conducive to the environment. This is where visuals come in. In this video, follow Jen as she shares her favorite on-the-go vis...

You are absolutely right, and we need to know about the disability. I'm a retired Home Health Aide, I asked and beg about my son disability he's autistic I had to educate myself about my son disability. I knew the behavior of strokes, dementia. In-service was my biggest support, can you imagine that I'm in a home by myself and the only thing I have is my training and a telephone. You have to stay calm to keep that person calm. Or that person will going into full meltdown.💕
Great point! Thank you so much for sharing! ❤️
wait cause this actually looks so fun, i'm not autistic and i don't have adhd tho
Let me know how it goes!
I'm a retired Home Health Aide,, I knew my patients more than the NURSES, but they respect me and I respect them. We all need to work together to help children and adults with disabilities.
So true! Thanks for sharing!
I used the tabletop three-drawer system in my self-contained classes, but the drawers were not always large enough for those activities that required more space. They were excellent for file folder activities and smaller hands-on sorting, but I am thinking of switching to the boxes so I can get more activities that require bigger containers. Have you ever used the three drawer system? Do learners ever get into boxes they are not scheduled to do because that is their preferred activity?
Hello! Yes, I used to use the three drawer system and I love that system. As my class grew larger and I got more students every year, I decided to move to this system so it is more contained and easier for my paraprofessional to monitor. Learners do sometimes get into boxes that are not on their schedule. This is typically when they are learning the system and wanting to explore more. I always have a paraprofessional at this center monitoring so if or when this happens, they can redirect the student and reinforce appropriately.

How many children work in that center at a time? Do all students visit every center in the morning?
Any where from 1-3 students are working in this center at a time depending on my student groupings. Yes, all students do this center once a day, every day!
@@theautismhelper Thanks!
Thank you for this! Do your students get breakfast at school? Dom they eat before or after morning meeting, and where do they eat?
Yes! My students eat before this in the cafeteria.

I’m going into my first year teaching in a K-2 self-contained classroom. I’ve been watching your videos and feel you run your room the way I imagine running mine. I’m more interested in your morning meeting? Do you have a link of what your PowerPoint looks like?
I don't have a link. It's something I created and modify for my learners each year depending on their levels.

Hi! I loved this SO much. Do you have a link to your powerpoint slides you use?
I didn’t use any PowerPoint slides in this activity. What I did use was an iPad with Touch Chat Word Power 60. If you don’t have access to an AAC device, you could simply use body part cards.

Welcome and thanks for following!
Hi! I would REALLY appreciate a video on what a teacher wishes the parents knew. And ways a parent can help support their child starting school. My daughter with autism will be starting kindergarten in late August. She'll be in the diagnostic kindergarten class for our district. (15ish kids, a teacher and 2 para professionals. It's all day kindergarten. She went to preschool through the district and did very well, she had so much progress. I'm trying to set her up for another year of good progress and would love to hear any tips to parents from the people that know (you guys)!
What a great question! We will work on this. But honestly - it sounds like you are already doing the right things! Great communication and researching on your own are two key components!
Could you possibly do a video on types on breaks ?
Yes! I'll add to my list!
Is all your direct instruction 1:1? My school observes us while conducting lessons to “grade” us. Do you ever do a whole group lesson? If so, can you make a detailed video on how you’d do a lesson from start to finish?
Yes - I do whole group lessons, too! I make sure my paras are on the carpet with me and able to help support students at that time.
I love it and your color coding system. May I ask where you got your colored rug?❤
Thanks for watching! Here's the link to the rug: amzn.to/3VNN7ML

Would this work for a teen who is barely reading (just a few small words) or would he need to be able to already read all these words?
Tami, Use our Curriculum Matrix to best determine what level is appropriate for each student. If you still have questions, you can email sadie@theautismhelper.com and she will help! theautismhelper.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/TAH-Curriculum-Levels-Matrix.pdf
